Pune Market Yard Power Cuts Disrupt Weighing and Billing

Repeated power cuts at Pune Market Yard’s jaggery and grain section are disrupting electronic weighing, computerised billing and GST-related work as trading activity rises during the festival season, according to a report by Pudhari – Pune.

The interruptions are affecting traders, customers, suppliers and transporters involved in the movement and sale of agricultural produce at the market yard. When the electricity supply fails, the weighing of goods, preparation of bills and movement of incoming and outgoing consignments are reportedly delayed.

The jaggery and grain section handles a substantial daily flow of agricultural commodities and financial transactions. Much of this work depends on computers and electronic equipment, making the reliability of the electricity supply important for routine market operations.

Traders have also reported fluctuations in voltage, with the supply described as varying between low and high levels. These interruptions and voltage changes have increased operational difficulties for businesses in the section, the report said.

The disruption comes as buying and selling activity has increased ahead of the festival period. Delays in weighing and billing can hold up transactions and vehicle movement, creating a chain of delays for traders, customers, suppliers and transporters using the market yard.

The traders’ community has said that the power-related disruption is causing financial losses during a period when market activity is higher. The report did not include a response from the electricity distribution authority or market administration on the cause of the interruptions, the steps being taken to stabilise the supply or a timeline for resolving the problem.
