Noida Airport Tightens Bird-Strike Controls as Drainage Work Slows

Noida International Airport has reviewed the risk posed by birds and animals near its airfield, with the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration directing agencies to accelerate pending drainage work and prevent waterlogging around the airport.

The review was held virtually on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Gautam Buddh Nagar district magistrate through the Airfield Environment Management Committee, or AEMC. The meeting examined animal and bird activity in and around the airport area and discussed measures to maintain a safe operating environment.

A key concern discussed by the committee was the possibility of birds and animals colliding with aircraft. Such activity can be influenced by conditions around an airfield, including standing water, waste and access to food or shelter. The committee directed the relevant departments to complete required measures within a fixed timeframe and maintain coordination among agencies.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority and the irrigation department were specifically asked to speed up pending drainage works. They were also instructed to take effective steps to prevent waterlogging in the airport area. According to the report, the objective is to reduce the possibility of birds and other animals gathering near the airport.

The airport’s chief operating officer conducted the meeting, during which airport officials made a detailed presentation to the committee. The presentation covered factors affecting the movement and activity of birds and other animals in the area. The committee considered these points and directed the concerned departments to take the necessary action.

The directions extend beyond drainage. Officials were told to strengthen arrangements related to cleanliness, water management and animal control around the airport. These measures place airport safety within a wider administrative framework involving land, water and local environmental management rather than treating bird and animal activity as an isolated airfield issue.

Officials from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, the district irrigation department, the veterinary department, the district administration, the police and the local nagar panchayat attended the meeting. Their participation reflects the number of agencies responsible for managing conditions around the airport and its surrounding areas.

The meeting did not announce a new flight schedule or provide a completion date for the drainage works. The immediate next step is for the concerned departments to implement the directions on drainage, waterlogging prevention, cleanliness and animal management in coordination with the airport authorities.
