Heavy rain across Bengaluru since the afternoon of October 5 left roads and underpasses waterlogged in several parts of the city, slowing traffic in areas including Laggere, Yeshwantpur, Hebbal and parts of south Bengaluru, officials said.
The Shivananda Circle and Hoodi underpasses were flooded, while waterlogging was also reported in Hennur, Doddanekundi, the ITPL area and Indiranagar, according to Greater Bengaluru Authority officials. Traffic police officials said most affected stretches were cleared overnight after the complaints were reported, limiting the impact on morning traffic on October 6.
Some roads continued to have stagnant water because of their poor condition, and efforts were under way to clear those stretches, officials said. The waterlogging slowed traffic on several important city routes, although authorities did not report a major citywide flooding incident.
The rain also resulted in a few complaints about fallen trees and branches. Incidents in HAL and around Defence Colony were attended to immediately, according to officials. No wider disruption linked to fallen trees was reported in the account of the rainfall.
The latest waterlogging comes as Bengaluru continues work on stormwater drainage and flood mitigation. Greater Bengaluru Authority officials said work on stormwater drains had been carried out over the past few months to reduce flooding. They said no major instances of flooding had been reported because of these measures, while acknowledging that short- and long-term interventions to address flooding remain under way.
The locations affected by the rain include residential, commercial and employment districts, linking the disruption to both local movement and broader traffic flows across the city. The presence of water in underpasses also affected key grade-separated road connections, where even temporary accumulation can restrict vehicle movement.
Officials did not provide details on the volume of rainfall, the duration of water stagnation at each location, or the specific long-term projects being implemented. The available information also did not indicate any casualties or major property damage from the rain.
Authorities’ immediate response focused on clearing waterlogged roads, restoring traffic movement and addressing fallen branches. Further stormwater-drain work and other long-term flood mitigation measures are expected to continue, according to Greater Bengaluru Authority officials.
