Bengaluru Waterlogging Slows Traffic as Heavy Rain Hits Key Roads

Bengaluru waterlogging disrupted traffic across several key roads on Monday afternoon after intense rain accompanied by thunder and lightning hit parts of the city. The downpour reduced visibility, slowed vehicles and made commuting difficult on stretches including KR Puram, Tin Factory and Old Madras Road near Ulsoor.

Rainwater accumulated around KR Puram Metro station and Tin Factory, where traffic moved slowly through waterlogged roads. Motorists switched on their headlights as visibility fell during the heavy showers, adding to the difficulty of navigating congested junctions and standing water.

Heavy water accumulation was also reported near the Geddalahalli railway bridge, affecting traffic towards Hennur. The location became one of several points where rainwater on the carriageway slowed movement and disrupted access along an important east Bengaluru route.

Bengaluru Traffic Police advised motorists to drive cautiously because of the waterlogged roads and poor visibility. The advisory came as vehicles moved slowly through several affected stretches and commuters struggled to travel during the afternoon rain.

The impact was reported across other parts of the city, including Majestic, Anand Rao Circle, TC Palya, Jakkur and Hebbal. These areas experienced heavy rain and related traffic disruption, with congestion building around junctions and on roads carrying regular commuter movement.

Low-lying areas were particularly vulnerable to water accumulation during the intense spell. The combination of heavy showers, standing water and reduced visibility brought parts of normal city travel to a halt, according to the report.

The disruption also affected Old Madras Road near Ulsoor, where motorists faced waterlogged stretches while travelling through the rain. The reported impacts were concentrated on road movement, with traffic slowing across multiple locations rather than remaining confined to a single junction.

The episode highlights the immediate operational challenge posed by intense rainfall on Bengaluru’s road network: water accumulation can quickly reduce usable carriageway space, lower driving visibility and turn already busy corridors into slow-moving routes. For commuters, the traffic police advisory remains the principal official guidance reported during the rain spell.

The report did not specify how long the waterlogging would persist or whether additional pumping, drainage or road-clearance measures had been announced. Traffic conditions are expected to depend on the continuation of rainfall and the clearance of accumulated water from the affected stretches.
