Kathwada Waterlogging AUDA’s Efforts Fall Short

Despite recent dry weather, persistent waterlogging issues continue to plague the city. On Thursday, the Tragad underpass on SP Ring Road and the Madhumalti Society area in Kathwada were still grappling with significant water accumulation. The situation has led to traffic diversions on the SP Ring Road, exacerbating congestion on adjacent routes during peak hours. The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) is actively engaged in pumping out water from the Tragad underpass. However, residents report that this effort is inadvertently causing water to pool on nearby streets, compounding traffic woes.

Local reports indicate that although Ahmedabad experienced minimal rainfall over the past two days, the residual water from earlier storms remains a critical issue. The inadequate drainage infrastructure is partly to blame, with the AUDA’s current measures proving insufficient to fully address the problem. The disruption has highlighted the need for a comprehensive review of the city’s drainage and water management systems. Urban planners and local authorities are under increasing pressure to implement effective solutions to prevent future occurrences. Traffic management strategies are also being evaluated to alleviate congestion in the affected areas. Until a long-term resolution is put into place, the ongoing waterlogging continues to impact daily commutes and local businesses.
