Cyberabad SHE Teams caught 37 people allegedly engaging in indecent acts, eve-teasing and harassment of women during 116 decoy operations conducted across the Cyberabad Commissionerate between September 26 and October 2, according to the Cyberabad police.
The police booked 56 petty cases during the enforcement drive. The operations were conducted in public places as part of measures aimed at identifying and deterring harassment of women, the report said.
The SHE Teams also received 15 complaints from women victims through different channels during the period. The complaints formed part of the wider response mechanism for cases involving public harassment and related forms of abuse.
Separately, the Cyberabad Anti Human Trafficking Unit rescued three victims and apprehended two people in a case registered under the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act. The report did not provide further details about the location of the case, the identities of those apprehended or the legal status of the proceedings.
The enforcement activity was accompanied by awareness programmes conducted by the Anti Human Trafficking Unit and the SHE Teams at various locations across Cyberabad. Around 3,407 people participated in these programmes, where officials addressed human and child trafficking, eve-teasing, social media harassment, child marriage, child rights, child labour, stalking, cyberbullying and fraud.
The range of issues covered by the programmes shows that the police response extended beyond street-level harassment to online abuse, exploitation and risks involving children. However, the information released does not specify how many of the 15 complaints led to cases, arrests or further investigation.
The police also reported interventions through family counselling centres and CDEW centres, where efforts were made to reunite 33 families involved in disputes between wives and husbands. These interventions were reported alongside the enforcement and awareness activities for the week.
The Cyberabad Commissionerate covers a large and rapidly urbanising area with public spaces, workplaces, educational institutions and transport-linked activity across its jurisdiction. The use of decoy operations, complaint channels and awareness programmes indicates a multi-part response involving enforcement, reporting and prevention. Further details on the cases booked and the follow-up action will determine the outcomes of the drive beyond the figures released for the week.
