The Delhi government is set to build an 11-storeyed Delhi Transport Corporation headquarters at IP Estate Bus Depot at an estimated cost of Rs 128.23 crore, replacing the corporation’s existing headquarters with a larger facility designed to support transport operations.
The new Delhi DTC building will come up on the land occupied by the existing headquarters. The complex will include two basements, a ground floor and 11 storeys, and is expected to be completed within two years after the construction contract is awarded, according to the tender document.
The project has moved into the tendering stage after DTC signed an agreement with the Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (DSIIDC) last December. DSIIDC has invited construction agencies to bid for the work, officials said.
The proposed complex will cover 26,000 square metres, or 2.6 hectares. Of this area, 12,234 square metres will be designated as operational space, while the building itself will occupy 6,158 square metres. The plan also includes 9,681.71 square metres of green area, equivalent to 20 per cent of the total land parcel.
Officials said the current DTC headquarters has become structurally outdated and inadequate for the operational requirements of Delhi’s expanding transport network. The replacement building is intended to provide a dedicated and upgraded administrative base for the city’s public bus corporation.
The new campus will include parking for 200 buses and basement parking for more than 200 cars. Its planned systems include firefighting equipment, an audio-visual system, access-control infrastructure, a CCTV network, lifts and high-side and low-side heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
The project will also include a commercial-use arrangement. Under the memorandum of understanding, 50 per cent of the commercial usage rights will remain with DSIIDC for 30 years. The tender process and subsequent award of the construction contract will determine when work begins and when the two-year completion period starts.
