Delhi-Gurugram Elevated Road Clears Key Step, ₹980 Crore Plan

The National Highways Authority of India has completed the detailed project report for a 4.5-kilometre elevated road between Andheria Mor and the Delhi-Gurugram border, as part of an 8.5-kilometre improvement plan on MG Road estimated to cost ₹980 crore. The project is intended to improve traffic movement between the two cities and reduce pressure on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway.

The wider corridor runs from Andheria Mor in Delhi to the Delhi-Gurugram border, with MG Road extending towards Gurugram from the IFFCO Chowk area near the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. According to the report by Live Hindustan, the Delhi portion of the project will include the elevated structure, while the plan also includes widening MG Road.

NHAI has received technical approval for the Delhi-side DPR. The project will move to the tender stage after approval from the Union ministry, according to the report. NHAI project director Yogesh Tilak said the DPR had been prepared for the section from Andheria Mor to the Delhi-Gurugram border and confirmed that 4.5 kilometres of the road would be developed as an elevated stretch.

The plan also includes an elevated U-turn connecting MG Road with the Delhi-bound side of the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. The proposed U-turn would pass above the highway. NHAI is also examining the possibility of providing an elevated connection for vehicles travelling from Delhi towards MG Road.

In Gurugram, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has begun the process of appointing a consultant to prepare the DPR for its part of the corridor. The report states that the Gurugram section will cover the road between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, with the DPR to be prepared afresh.

A separate 2.25-kilometre elevated section on the road connecting the Delhi-Jaipur Highway with the Dwarka Expressway has also received approval from the Haryana government. The proposed Hero Honda Chowk road is expected to provide a direct route for traffic moving towards nearby sectors from the Dwarka Expressway, without requiring vehicles to enter the congested Delhi-Jaipur Highway corridor.

The planned links are being developed across multiple jurisdictions, with NHAI handling the Delhi-side proposal and GMDA preparing the Gurugram-side project. Their implementation will depend on the ministry’s approval, completion of the Gurugram DPR and the subsequent tendering process. The authorities have not announced a construction start date in the information available.
