Chhattisgarh Noise Control Bill Opens 30-Day Public Review

The Chhattisgarh government has prepared a draft Chhattisgarh Noise Control Bill, 2026, proposing changes to the state’s existing 1985 law and inviting citizens, experts and other stakeholders to submit suggestions and objections over a 30-day period.

The draft has been prepared by a committee of the state Home Department and uploaded in both Hindi and English on the Chhattisgarh Police website, according to a report by the Times of India. The public consultation gives residents and other stakeholders an opportunity to examine the proposed provisions before the Bill moves further through the state’s legislative process.

The proposed legislation would replace or substantially revise the framework created under the Chhattisgarh noise-control law of 1985. The government has not, in the material available for this report, detailed the specific changes proposed in the draft, including any revised standards, enforcement powers, penalties, exemptions or responsibilities for local authorities.

Noise regulation is administered through a combination of state legislation, policing and local enforcement. In urban areas, complaints can involve amplified sound, commercial activity, construction, traffic and public events. The effectiveness of any new law will depend not only on the provisions finally approved but also on how responsibilities are divided between the state administration, police and local bodies.

By publishing the draft in two languages and allowing a defined period for suggestions and objections, the government has placed the proposed law in a formal consultation stage. The process also creates an opportunity for affected communities, specialists and institutions to identify practical enforcement concerns before the legislation is finalised.

The Times of India report does not specify the closing date for submissions or the detailed procedure through which feedback must be filed. Citizens and other stakeholders have been advised to study the draft available on the Chhattisgarh Police website and submit their responses within the government’s 30-day consultation period.
