The Delhi Traffic Police issued 14,160 challans and notices during a week-long enforcement drive across the national capital, with wrong-side driving accounting for the largest share of violations, according to data released by the force.
The drive was conducted from September 20 to 26. During this period, police issued 10,434 challans and notices to motorists driving on the wrong side of the road. The enforcement action was focused on violations that create risks for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
An officer said wrong-side driving was a key focus because of the danger it poses on city roads. Vehicles travelling against the designated direction can create sudden conflicts with oncoming traffic and increase risks for people crossing or walking along roads, although the police statement did not identify specific locations or incidents linked to the violations.
