Anakapalli waterlogging has disrupted daily life for residents of a 210-house Jagananna housing colony in Koruvada revenue limits of Kotapadu mandal after recent rains, with stagnant water reported along the approach road and around homes.
The colony was developed for beneficiaries from nine villages under the previous YSRC government’s housing programme. Residents said accumulated rainwater had made access and movement difficult, while water had reached several houses and created unhygienic conditions. They also reported that snakes and frogs had entered homes.
Residents said the waterlogging has recurred for the second consecutive year. They had previously brought the issue to the attention of the district collector and sought measures to prevent water from stagnating in and around the colony.
Rural Water Supply officials later inspected the site and reportedly prepared an estimate of Rs.2.60 lakh for constructing a drainage culvert. The proposal was forwarded to the Mandal Parishad for funding, but the culvert has not yet been built despite discussions at the mandal level.
The residents have now appealed to district authorities to expedite the proposed work and provide a permanent solution. Until the culvert is constructed, the approach road and residential area remain vulnerable to recurring water accumulation during rains, according to the residents’ account reported by Deccan Chronicle.
