Hyderabad traffic restrictions will continue on Saturday along major Ganesh immersion routes as processions and the movement of remaining idols draw large crowds to central parts of the city, police said. Motorists have been advised to avoid Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and areas around Indira Gandhi Rotary unless travel is necessary.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar appealed to residents to postpone journeys through the affected areas or use alternative routes. He also advised people against making unnecessary trips to roads experiencing heavy congestion during the immersion activity.
The advisory covers key roads and public spaces around Hussain Sagar that handle significant traffic movement during normal operations. During the immersion processions, these routes have also seen large numbers of devotees, families and vehicles arriving to participate in the festival or accompany idols to immersion points.
Sajjanar said the Ganesh idol immersion procession had remained peaceful and continued in a grand manner since Friday. Lakhs of devotees had turned up at Tank Bund, NTR Marg, Necklace Road and other locations, he said, while reporting that there had been no major untoward incident in the city.
The large movement of people and vehicles slowed traffic and caused some delay in the immersion of idols, according to the Commissioner. Police and traffic personnel were working continuously to facilitate the immersion of the remaining idols and manage movement along the procession routes.
The restrictions mean that commuters travelling through central Hyderabad may face delays, diversions or slower movement near the identified roads. The police have asked residents to follow traffic advisories and avoid entering congested areas without a compelling reason.
The advisory also reflects the operational challenge of managing a major public festival across roads that connect important parts of the city. With devotees continuing to arrive in large numbers, traffic management remains linked to the pace of processions and the completion of immersion activity.
Sajjanar thanked citizens for cooperating with the police and urged them to continue following advisories issued by the traffic police. Restrictions will remain in place on the major procession routes while the immersion of the remaining idols continues.
