Hyderabad’s Ganesh immersion procession is continuing peacefully but has slowed traffic across several major city routes, prompting police to ask motorists to avoid the affected roads and postpone non-essential journeys. The procession, which began on Saturday, is expected to continue until the afternoon, according to Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.
Sajjanar said lakhs of devotees, many accompanied by their families, had gathered at Tank Bund, NTR Marg, Necklace Road, Liberty, Mozamjahi Market and other parts of the city. He thanked residents for cooperating with the police and helping ensure that the procession proceeded without any untoward incidents.
The large movement of idols and devotees has slowed vehicle traffic and slightly delayed the immersion process. Police and traffic personnel are working continuously to complete the immersion of idols at the earliest, the Commissioner said. Traffic restrictions on major procession routes will remain in place while the movement continues.
General vehicles will not be allowed on Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and areas around Indira Gandhi Rotary because of the heavy movement of idols. These restrictions are intended to keep the procession routes clear and allow the police and traffic teams to manage the movement of vehicles and devotees.
Sajjanar appealed to motorists to completely avoid the immersion routes unless travel is necessary in an emergency. He asked people to postpone their journeys or use alternative routes instead. Citizens were also advised not to venture onto the affected roads unnecessarily, as doing so could leave them caught in slow-moving traffic.
The restrictions place the city’s central road network under temporary pressure as large groups converge on locations connected to the immersion activity. For commuters, the police advisory means that journeys involving Tank Bund, Necklace Road, NTR Marg, PV Statue and Indira Gandhi Rotary may require postponement or route changes until the procession clears.
The Commissioner urged residents to closely follow official advisories and traffic updates issued by the Traffic police. He also asked citizens to extend full cooperation to the police department as personnel continue managing the procession and working to complete the immersion operations.
The traffic restrictions will continue while the procession remains active. Police said commuters should rely on official updates for route information and avoid the listed roads unless their travel is unavoidable.
