The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor received a high-level push on the opening day of UPITS-2026, as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah visited the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) stall in Greater Noida on September 25. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak was also present.
Officials at the stall briefed the visitors on the defence and industrial ecosystems being developed in Uttar Pradesh, along with investment opportunities, key achievements and upcoming plans. Colonel Sanjay Singh (retired), chief general manager of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, and Monika Kumar, additional general manager for Uttar Pradesh Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Clusters, made the presentations.
The UP Defence Industrial Corridor is being developed through six nodes in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi and Chitrakoot. According to the information presented at the UPEIDA stall, the corridor is intended to strengthen domestic capabilities in defence and aerospace manufacturing, attract investment, support research and development, and build an industrial supply chain for advanced defence products.
The proposed industrial activity spans small arms and ordnance, missiles and aerospace, drones and electronic warfare, defence electronics, explosives and ammunition. The state government is also focusing on industrial-scale electricity supply, water supply, roads and last-mile connectivity for projects across the corridor’s nodes.
The infrastructure requirements are significant because the corridor’s success depends not only on individual factories but also on the supporting systems that allow manufacturing units, suppliers and workers to operate. The UPEIDA presentation identified basic industrial services and connectivity as part of the development effort, placing transport and utility infrastructure alongside investment promotion.
The state is also pursuing institutional support for skilled manpower, research and development and technical innovation. IIT Kanpur and IIT (BHU) Varanasi have been identified for development as Centres of Excellence. Common Facility Centres and Skill Development Centres are being planned or developed to provide testing, prototyping, design, training and technical assistance to industry.
The presentation also referred to UPDIC’s participation in the India–Spain Defence Industry Workshop, the Regional Defence MSME Conclave and the 15th Defence and Aerospace Strategic Electronics Summit 2026. These events were used to present investment and technology partnership opportunities in Uttar Pradesh’s defence and aerospace sectors, according to UPEIDA’s official records cited in the report.
In the Chitrakoot node, Bharat Electronics Limited has proposed investment towards establishing an advanced defence manufacturing unit.
