Pune Police will deploy 10,000 personnel and monitor the Ganesh immersion procession with 2,000 CCTV cameras, including AI-based systems, on September 26. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said criminal cases would be registered for violations of noise limits, use of high-powered sound systems and other procession-related rules.
The procession will begin from the area around the Lokmanya Tilak statue at Mahatma Phule Mandai, following the established tradition. Security arrangements have been planned under the direction of Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Sanjay Darade and Additional Commissioners Manoj Patil, Rajesh Bansode, Tejaswi Satpute and Sanjay Patil.
Police will be deployed along key immersion routes, including Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Kelkar Road and Kुमठेकर Road. The deployment will include personnel from the Home Guards and units of the State Reserve Police Force. Plainclothes officers will be positioned in crowded areas to prevent incidents of theft and harassment, the police said.
The 2,000 CCTV cameras installed along the routes will keep watch over the procession and will be connected to the police control room. Observation towers will be erected at major junctions to support surveillance of crowd movement and activities along the procession route.
Police assistance centres will operate at Belbag Chowk, Lokmanya Tilak Chowk near Alka theatre, Khanduji Baba Chowk, Deshbhat Keshavrao Jedhe Chowk and the S. P. College junction. The arrangement is intended to provide police support at important points along the route while the procession is under surveillance.
The police have also directed participating Ganesh mandals not to use powerful laser beams. Joint Commissioner Sanjay Darade said mandals must comply with Supreme Court orders applicable to the procession. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar warned that cases would be registered against mandals that violate the rules.
The enforcement plan places noise control and court-directed restrictions alongside crowd surveillance and security deployment. Police said the procession would be monitored through the control-room-linked CCTV network, observation towers and personnel deployed across the main immersion roads.
