Hyderabad rain accompanied by gusty winds, lightning and thunder disrupted traffic across the city on Tuesday, with jams reported in core Hyderabad, Secunderabad and the Hitec City-Gachibowli corridor. Fallen tree branches affected movement at Koti, while traffic police advised commuters to avoid some flyovers and stretches because of slow vehicular movement.
Rainfall remained light to moderate across different parts of the city. Data from the Telangana State Development Planning Society showed that Vittalvadi in Himayathnagar recorded the highest rainfall by 7 pm at 32.8 mm. Hydernagar in Kukatpally received 28.5 mm, followed by 25.3 mm at the PHC Centre in Balajinagar, 25 mm at Bansilalpet in Musheerabad and 23.5 mm at Turkayamjal in Abdullapurmet mandal of Rangareddy district.
The rainfall recorded across Hyderabad ranged from 2.5 mm to below 40 mm, according to the data cited in the report. Despite the moderate intensity, the timing of the showers caused significant disruption as Tuesday was a working day and commuters were travelling through the city’s busiest employment and commercial corridors.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police reported broken tree branches on the main road near SBI on Bank Street in Koti. The branches led to traffic jams in the area, with traffic personnel assisting in clearing the obstruction and regulating vehicle movement.
Traffic authorities advised commuters to avoid the Shaikpet flyover and the Tolichowki flyover towards Nanalnagar and Rethibowli. Vehicular movement on these routes was slow because of the rain. The advisory highlighted how even moderate showers can create bottlenecks when road traffic, reduced visibility and obstructions on carriageways occur at the same time.
Traffic was also reported to be crawling in several neighbourhoods, including Paradise, Begumpet, Ameerpet, RP Road, Marredpally, Trimulgherry, Picket, AOC, Safilguda, Old Bowenpally, Kompally, ECIL, Malkajgiri, Tarnaka, Mettuguda and Sangeet Cross Roads. The affected locations span central, northern and western parts of the metropolitan area, covering established residential areas as well as major office and commercial zones.
The incidents reported on Tuesday involved traffic disruption and fallen branches, while the traffic police response focused on clearing the obstruction, regulating vehicles and guiding commuters away from slow-moving stretches. The advisory remained the immediate operational measure for managing movement across the affected corridors.
