Pune GCC jobs have already reached about one lakh, according to the Pune civic administration, as the Maharashtra government and Pune Municipal Corporation move to attract more global capability centres and address the operational challenges faced by companies in the city and its surrounding region.
More than 25 heads of global capability centres participated in a special meeting convened to discuss investment opportunities, employment generation and difficulties faced by businesses operating in Pune. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis joined the meeting online and spoke with company representatives about the conditions required for further investment.
The meeting was organised through the initiative of Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and civic house leader Ganesh Bidkar. Representatives from the municipal corporation, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, police department, district collector’s office and other government departments also participated.
During the interaction, company representatives raised issues connected with conducting business and the support required from public authorities. The report did not specify each company’s individual concern or announce a detailed package of incentives, financial allocations or project-wise investment commitments. It said the discussion covered the difficulties faced by industry and possible measures to resolve them.
Fadnavis said the state government and Pune Municipal Corporation would provide the necessary cooperation to address the problems faced by industries. The statement places the civic body alongside state and regional agencies in the effort to make Pune more attractive to global companies, rather than treating investment promotion as a responsibility of the state government alone.
GCCs are centres established by multinational companies to carry out functions such as technology, business operations and other specialised corporate activities. In Pune, their expansion is being presented by the civic and state authorities as a source of employment as the city’s population and urban footprint continue to grow. The report said the sector has already created employment for approximately one lakh people, but did not provide a breakdown by company, job type, location or period.
Bidkar said the city was working to become a stronger investment destination for global companies and described the meeting as a positive step towards attracting new investment and creating additional employment opportunities. The statement did not provide a target for the number of new GCCs, a timeline for fresh hiring or details of the next round of discussions.
The participation of the PMRDA, police, district administration and municipal officials indicates that the authorities intend to address business concerns through coordination across multiple departments. Further progress will depend on the measures taken by these agencies after the meeting and on whether companies convert the discussions into specific investment or expansion plans.
