Around 30 residents of a paying guest accommodation in Bengaluru’s Koramangala approached Viveknagar police on Saturday, alleging repeated power disruptions, poor hygiene and failures in basic maintenance at the facility. Police visited the property after receiving a call from the residents and asked them to submit a formal complaint if they wanted action to be initiated.
The residents live at Hyphen Sprout PG in Cauvery Colony. They alleged that the facility had been facing frequent electricity interruptions, unreliable WiFi, elevator breakdowns and a severe cockroach infestation. They also raised concerns about the maintenance and hygiene of the drinking-water and water-tank facilities.
Residents said the connectivity problems had affected those working remotely and depending on a stable internet connection. Kumar Mayank, a resident, said repeated complaints and communications had not resulted in timely resolutions from the property management.
“Despite repeated complaints and communications, the property management has frequently failed to provide proper responses or timely resolutions. Residents are often unable to obtain effective assistance from the property managers for basic and essential services,” Mayank said.
He also alleged that the drinking-water and water-tank facilities were not cleaned or maintained regularly. Residents claimed they had seen insects and other crawling organisms inside the water tank, raising concerns about the hygiene and safety of the water supplied at the PG.
According to the residents, the issues had been brought to the attention of the property management several times, but their complaints had not been adequately addressed. The allegations cover services that directly affect day-to-day living in shared accommodation, including electricity, water, sanitation, communication access and the functioning of the building’s lift.
The police visit followed the residents’ call, but the report did not indicate that a formal complaint had yet been registered or that enforcement action had been taken. Viveknagar police told the residents to lodge a formal complaint if they wanted the matter to proceed.
The PG management had not responded to the allegations at the time of publication. Any further police action will depend on the residents submitting a formal complaint and the authorities examining the issues raised at the facility.
