The Special Investigation Team’s remand report in the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna has detailed how the victim was allegedly assaulted at the Krishna Lanka police station, moved to an abandoned building and later cremated, according to the report filed before a Vijayawada city court.
The report concerns fourth accused and realtor Gulivindala Suresh, who was allegedly present when Krishna Lanka circle inspector Nagaraju, head constable Ashok and constable Nani assaulted Sai Krishna at the police station on May 7. The report said the group later took him to an abandoned building at Ranigari Thota.
According to the SIT account submitted to the court, Suresh visited the building on May 12 and found Sai Krishna seriously injured. Nagaraju allegedly instructed Suresh and other constables to keep him there until he recovered. Sai Krishna subsequently died, the report said.
The report alleged that during the intervening night of May 12 and 13, Nagaraju, Ashok and Suresh wrapped the body in a blanket and transported it on a motorcycle to Swargapuri crematorium, where they cremated it themselves. Suresh allegedly returned to the crematorium on May 18 to check whether any remains were left.
The SIT later recovered ashes, bones and burnt material from the crematorium and seized two vehicles, according to the remand report. It also alleged that CCTV footage and other technical evidence connected to the case had been destroyed. Head constable Satyanarayana allegedly deleted photographs taken while Sai Krishna was in custody.
The report further alleged that on May 31, Suresh accompanied Krishna Lanka police personnel to the house of Sai Krishna’s maternal uncle, Mullapudi Navrang, and offered compensation in exchange for withdrawing a habeas corpus petition filed in the High Court. Navrang allegedly rejected the offer.
The SIT sought 15 days of police custody for Suresh to pursue its investigation. The court instead remanded him to judicial custody until September 24, after which he was taken to Nuzvid jail. The allegations in the remand report remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
