Delhi Railway Stations Begin 15-Day Cleanliness Drive

North Railway has launched a 15-day cleanliness drive at railway stations in Delhi, with officials set to review sanitation in station premises, food facilities, drinking-water points and toilets until October 2. The campaign began at New Delhi railway station as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 programme.

North Railway General Manager Rajesh Kumar Pandey administered a cleanliness pledge at New Delhi station and appealed to passengers to participate in the campaign. He and other railway officials also took part in a shramdaan activity near the station’s Ajmeri Gate side.

The drive will focus not only on cleaning station areas but also on identifying shortcomings in passenger-facing facilities and taking steps to address them. The railway administration said reviews would cover catering services, drinking-water arrangements, toilets and other locations within station premises.

Passenger facilities are a critical part of railway infrastructure because stations function as high-footfall public spaces where sanitation conditions directly affect daily travel. The campaign’s scope, as outlined by North Railway, places these facilities alongside general premises cleaning rather than treating cleanliness as a purely cosmetic exercise.

A street play was organised at New Delhi station to communicate the cleanliness message to passengers. The programme is intended to encourage travellers to adopt cleaner habits and participate in keeping station spaces hygienic.

Pandey said developing cleanliness habits among passengers could help make the Swachh Bharat goal more effective. The railway administration has asked passengers to actively participate in the campaign and contribute to building a clean and healthy India.

The launch was attended by Delhi Divisional Railway Manager Pushpesh Raman Tripathi and other senior railway officials. Their participation places the campaign within the administrative structure of North Railway and its Delhi division, which are responsible for maintaining station operations and passenger amenities in the locations covered by the drive.

The campaign will continue through October 2. During this period, railway authorities are expected to review cleanliness and passenger facilities and take corrective steps wherever shortcomings are identified.
