The Mevla Maharajpur health centre in Faridabad’s Sector 45 has been approved for conversion into a 50-bed sub-divisional hospital, adding diagnostic, inpatient and surgical services intended to reduce pressure on the 200-bed BK Hospital.
The announcement was made by Union Minister of State Krishan Pal Gurjar during the Seva Sankalp campaign held at the urban health centre on Thursday. The upgraded facility is expected to provide operations including knee and hip procedures, along with a wider range of tests and patient-care services.
BK Hospital currently handles a high volume of patients, with long queues reported outside outpatient department doctors’ rooms. Patients typically wait between 45 minutes and an hour for an appointment, while people seeking blood and other diagnostic tests also face queues. Patients requiring surgery at the hospital may have to wait for extended periods, according to the report.
The Mevla Maharajpur centre is located around 1.5 to two kilometres from the National Highway. It currently provides outpatient services, inpatient admission, surgery, orthopaedic surgery, dental care and round-the-clock childbirth services. The centre and the health facility at Kheri Kalan are the only facilities in the district reported to conduct operative deliveries.
After the upgrade, the facility is expected to offer X-rays, ultrasound, ECGs and several types of blood-related tests. It will also have wards for admitted patients and provide hip and knee replacement, eye operations and other surgical procedures. The expanded services are intended to give residents an additional public healthcare facility closer to their neighbourhoods while distributing patient loads beyond BK Hospital.
The health department plans to appoint 45 healthcare workers for the proposed sub-divisional hospital. The staffing plan includes 11 doctors, 17 staff nurses, two senior nursing officers and other personnel. The facility was originally considered for Kheri Kalan, but the plan was shifted to Mevla Maharajpur after the Kheri Kalan health centre was found not to meet government standards, according to the report.
Dr Meenakshi Tanwar, senior medical officer at the Mevla Maharajpur urban health centre, said approval had been granted and that the staff appointment process was under way. She said staff could possibly be made available by the end of September, while the facility would aim to provide as many healthcare services as possible to patients.
