Delhi has launched a series of public-service initiatives, including a blood donation camp, an online organ donation pledge campaign, a workers’ facilitation centre and a rest area for gig workers, as part of the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
The initiatives were announced by the Delhi government on Thursday to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The campaign is being observed from September 17 to October 17 and includes health, labour and public participation programmes across the city.
A mega blood donation camp at Thyagaraj Stadium collected 2,080 units of blood. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta donated blood at the event and appealed to Delhi residents to participate in donation drives when eligible. Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Cabinet ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries were also present.
Gupta said the campaign had been inspired by Modi’s 25 years in public life and was intended to strengthen the spirit of service and public participation. “Blood donation is not merely the act of giving blood, but a noble pledge that strengthens the sacred bond of humanity, compassion and empathy,” she said. Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said blood donation and other health and public-welfare programmes would continue during the Seva Pakhwada.
The government also launched an online organ donation pledge campaign through the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation website. Gupta became the first person to register on the portal, which allows Delhi residents to pledge their organs online and receive a digital pledge certificate automatically.
The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation was also made operational at G.B. Pant Hospital. The Delhi government said the organisation would improve coordination and promote organ and tissue donation and transplantation activities in the capital. Singh said the dedicated online portal would make the pledge process more accessible to residents.
At Shalimar Bagh, Gupta inaugurated a Namo Shramik Seva Kendra and a Gig Workers’ Rest Area on Vishwakarma Day. The facilitation centre is intended to provide workers with registration and renewal support, document verification, application-status assistance, welfare-scheme information and claims-related services at one location.
Labour Minister Kapil Mishra said 13 Shramik Seva Kendras would be launched in the first phase and expanded across Delhi subsequently. The government also said workers would receive technical and foreign-language training to support employment opportunities abroad. Health vehicles are expected to visit workplaces for regular check-ups, with treatment arrangements to be made when health problems are identified.
Gupta also participated in a 108-Kundiya Yajna at Shri Khatu Shyam Delhi Dham in Alipur as part of the birthday observances. The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan will continue through October 17, with further health and public-welfare programmes planned during the campaign period.
