The New Delhi Municipal Council has advised residents of 145 Type-I quarters at Valmiki Sadan on Mandir Marg to vacate the premises after a structural assessment found eight residential blocks unsafe for habitation.
The affected quarters are spread across eight blocks at the NDMC housing complex. The council said its Civil Engineering Department conducted a comprehensive study and found the identified buildings to be structurally unsafe and beyond economical repair.
Four of the blocks are three-storey buildings constructed in 1965-66. They contain 81 units covering quarters numbered G-25 to G-51, F-25 to F-51 and S-25 to S-51. The remaining four blocks are four-storey buildings constructed in 1985-86 and contain 64 quarters.
The municipal housing department has informed the allottees about the assessment and the evacuation advisory. NDMC officials said the decision was taken because of the deteriorated structural condition of the buildings and the potential risk to occupants.
“The municipal housing department has informed the allottees. In view of the deteriorated structural condition of these buildings and the potential risk to occupants, NDMC has urged all residents concerned to vacate the identified quarters at the earliest and extend full cooperation to the authorities during the evacuation process,” NDMC officials said.
The council described the advisory as a preventive measure and said residents’ safety was its top priority. It also appealed to affected occupants to cooperate with the administration so that action could be taken in time.
To support rehabilitation, the NDMC has announced a one-time special bidding drive through the e-Awas portal. The bidding window will remain open from September 16 to September 20, according to the council’s announcement.
The move adds another entry to a wider sequence of evacuations involving older residential buildings in Lutyens’ Delhi. In July 2025, the NDMC initiated action against several residential buildings that were more than 50 years old. This led to the evacuation of housing complexes at Pandara Park and Prithviraj Lane, while pending flats at Pandara Park were vacated recently.
At that time, notices were also issued to residents of Palika Dham. The developments have brought the condition of ageing government housing stock under renewed administrative attention, although the latest advisory is specific to the eight identified blocks at Valmiki Sadan.
Valmiki Sadan is also known as the site where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission. The immediate next step for residents covered by the advisory is participation in the special e-Awas bidding process between September 16 and September 20, while NDMC continues the evacuation process.
