MHADA Service Charges Cut for Khoni, Shirdhon PMAY Homes

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s Konkan Board has reduced monthly service charges for beneficiaries of its Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana homes in Khoni and Shirdhon, lowering the recurring burden on residents after complaints that the earlier rates were too high.

According to a letter recently issued by the Konkan Board, the monthly service charge for homes in Khoni has been reduced by Rs 622, from Rs 2,422 to Rs 1,800. In Shirdhon, the charge has been cut by Rs 279, from Rs 1,979 to Rs 1,700 per month.

The charges cover services including electricity, water and other facilities provided through the housing projects. Beneficiaries of MHADA housing projects are charged for these services by the relevant regional board. Residents of the Khoni and Shirdhon PMAY schemes had objected to the earlier charges and sought a reduction from the Konkan Board.

The issue remained pending until MHADA Vice-President Sanjeev Jaiswal visited the project site on May 21, 2026. Residents raised the service-charge issue during the inspection and requested that the rates be reduced. The board subsequently accepted the beneficiaries’ demand and issued the revised charges.

The decision affects two PMAY housing locations developed under the Konkan Board. For households living in subsidised or affordable housing, recurring charges form part of the monthly cost of occupying a home, in addition to any loan repayment, maintenance or other household expenses. The revised rates therefore change the regular service outgo for beneficiaries at both locations.

Dr Vishal Rathod, chief officer of the Konkan Board, confirmed that the monthly service charge would now be Rs 1,800 for Khoni homes and Rs 1,700 for homes in Shirdhon. The revised amounts will apply following the board’s recently issued communication on the reductions.
