A 50-year-old woman living in Delhi’s Civil Lines has allegedly been threatened with death and asked to pay ₹200 crore by a caller claiming to be gangster Goldy Brar, prompting investigations by the Delhi Police district unit and Special Cell.
According to a report by Live Hindustan – NCR, the woman received a WhatsApp call from a foreign number at about 10:44 pm on 7 September. The caller allegedly identified himself as Goldy Brar and claimed to have detailed information about the woman’s family. He demanded ₹200 crore and threatened to kill the woman and her husband if the money was not paid.
The woman initially ignored the call, but approached the Civil Lines police station after receiving another alleged threat. Police registered a case on 10 September under Sections 351(4), 308(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, according to the report.
The case has been taken up by both the local district police and the Delhi Police Special Cell. Investigators are working to identify the caller, trace the foreign number and establish the motive behind the demand. The report did not identify the number’s country of origin or state whether any money was transferred.
The woman reportedly owns ancestral property in Civil Lines. Police are examining whether the threat was issued by an organised criminal network or whether someone used the name of Goldy Brar to intimidate the family in connection with a private or property-related dispute. At this stage, the identity of the caller and the authenticity of the claimed association with Brar have not been established.
The alleged demand places a high-value property connection at the centre of the investigation, but the available report does not establish that the woman’s property was directly targeted or that any dispute over ownership exists. It also does not report any physical attack or arrest in the case.
The use of an overseas number and WhatsApp calls adds a digital dimension to the investigation. Police will need to establish the source of the communication and determine whether the caller had access to specific information about the family or was making a general threat while invoking a prominent criminal name.
The case comes amid continuing police scrutiny of extortion threats made in the name of organised crime groups. However, the investigation is still at an early stage, and officials have not publicly confirmed that the call came from Brar or any gang linked to him. The Delhi Police investigation remains focused on identifying the caller and determining the motive behind the alleged demand.
