Malkajgiri police will deploy AI-enabled drones, nearly 5,000 CCTV cameras and more than 5,700 police personnel across the commissionerate during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and idol immersions from September 14 to 25, police commissioner B. Sumathi said.
The security plan covers the newly formed Malkajgiri Commissionerate, which was created after the reorganisation of the erstwhile Rachakonda Commissionerate. This will be the first Ganesh festival managed by the commissionerate as a full-fledged urban police unit.
Police expect more than 15,000 Ganesh idols to be installed across the commissionerate this year, around 10 per cent higher than last year. The department also expects approximately 25,000 idols to be immersed at designated locations during the festival period.
“Around 5,000 CCTV cameras will also be used at important locations, while organisers of pandals, particularly those measuring 10 feet and above, have been encouraged to install surveillance cameras,” Sumathi said. The deployment is intended to support surveillance and law-and-order management at crowded locations and along procession routes.
Around 5,749 police personnel of various ranks will be assigned to security and law-and-order duties. They will be supported by approximately 1,200 traffic personnel, while four Telangana State Special Police platoons will be stationed at sensitive locations.
The police have identified key procession points including Uppal X Road, LB Nagar X Road, Habsiguda, Rampally, Kushaiguda, ECIL X Road, Malkajgiri, Neredmet, Paradise, Patny, Maredpally, CTO, Rasoolpura, YMCA and Tirumalgiri. These locations are expected to require traffic regulation and crowd-management arrangements during the celebrations and immersion processions.
Twenty-seven immersion locations have also been identified across the commissionerate. They include Shamirpet Lake, Saroornagar Lake, Rampally Lake, Uppal Baby Pond, Edulabad Tank and Safilguda Baby Pond. The arrangements place multiple water bodies and urban access routes within the police planning area, while the expected increase in idol installations adds to the scale of the operation.
Police said nearly 9,000 idols are expected to enter Hyderabad city limits through Patny, Begumpet and YMCA. The movement of these idols will add to traffic-management requirements beyond the commissionerate’s local procession routes, according to the police plan.
The deployment will remain in place through the festival and immersion period ending September 25. Police have identified the sensitive locations, immersion points and personnel requirements as part of the arrangements announced for the first major festival managed by the reorganised Malkajgiri Commissionerate.
