Pune police have registered a case against two unidentified men after a Marathi television actress alleged that they verbally abused and threatened her following a minor road accident near Navale Bridge on the Mumbai-Bengaluru bypass, according to a report citing Narhe police.
The incident took place on Friday night, September 11, when the actress was travelling by car from Mumbai towards Satara. A minor accident occurred near Navale Bridge, after which two men travelling in another car allegedly confronted her and behaved aggressively, according to her complaint at the Narhe police station.
The two men allegedly left the spot in their vehicle after the confrontation. Narhe police have registered a case against them and said that efforts were under way to trace them. The police account, as reported by Loksatta, did not identify the two men or provide details of the sections invoked in the case.
The actress later circulated a video on social media describing the incident and calling for action against those who mistreat women after road accidents. She said that aggressive behaviour towards a woman over a minor accident was wrong and that women’s safety on the road needed to be considered.
Navale Bridge is located on the Mumbai-Bengaluru bypass in Pune and is a busy road corridor connecting the city with the southern parts of Maharashtra and destinations beyond Pune. Incidents following road collisions can involve disputes between drivers and passengers, making the conduct of people at accident sites a public-safety concern.
The case remains under investigation. Narhe police are searching for the two men named in the complaint, and further details are expected as they identify and question those involved.
