A five-to-six-foot python found near the divider of the busy Nalasopara-Virar Link Road on Saturday night was safely rescued by police officer Ravi Pawar, helping prevent a possible road accident and saving the snake from being struck by vehicles.
The python was discovered close to the central divider on the road connecting Shriprastha in Nalasopara with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority area in Virar. The route carries heavy traffic, and the snake’s presence caused fear among passing motorists.
According to the report, the road runs alongside a creek and dense vegetation, where snakes are commonly seen. The python had emerged from the surrounding bushes and moved towards the divider, creating a hazard for both drivers and the animal as vehicles continued to pass through the area.
Police officer Ravi Pawar, attached to Crime Unit 2, was travelling along the route when he received information about the snake. He immediately reached the spot and took control of the situation. The report said he handled the python safely and moved it away from the road.
The snake was subsequently released in a safer wooded area away from traffic. Pawar’s intervention prevented the python from remaining in the path of vehicles and reduced the possibility of motorists swerving suddenly or stopping in the busy corridor.
A video of the incident has circulated on social media, while residents and animal lovers have praised the officer’s prompt response. The incident also highlights the interaction between expanding road traffic and the creek-side vegetation along the Nalasopara-Virar corridor, where wildlife can enter heavily used urban routes.
