The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several states, with Delhi, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and parts of Karnataka among the areas facing unsettled weather over the coming days.
Delhi is likely to receive more rain, with the wet spell expected to continue until September 16, according to the forecast cited by the Times of India. Mumbai and neighbouring areas are also likely to receive further rainfall. In Odisha, the weather department has forecast more rain over the next 24 hours and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the state’s coast during this period. The advisory comes as rainfall activity remains active across parts of eastern and southern India.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has issued a heavy rainfall alert for isolated pockets of the state over the next 24 hours. Northern coastal districts are expected to experience the strongest impact from the advancing weather system, including intense spells of rain on Monday.
The IMD has forecast isolated to scattered rainfall over Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from September 14 to 18. Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive similar rainfall from September 16 to 18, while Coastal Karnataka is expected to receive rain on September 14 and 15. North Interior Karnataka may see rainfall from September 15 to 18. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, South Interior Karnataka and Telangana are also likely to experience isolated to scattered rain during September 14-18.
Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph, with gusts of up to 60 kmph, are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from September 14 to 16. Similar conditions are forecast over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during the same period. Telangana is expected to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds on September 14.
The IMD has separately forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during September 15-16, and over Kerala and Mahe from September 14 to 17. The forecast places multiple urban and coastal regions under a continuing spell of rain, lightning and strong winds.
The latest forecast indicates that rainfall activity will remain active across parts of southern and eastern India over the coming days.
