Affordable chemotherapy services are expected to start soon at Delhi’s Bala Sahib Hospital, with treatment planned at about half the prevailing market rates, according to an announcement by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Harmeet Singh Kalka.
Kalka announced the proposed service while addressing the congregation during programmes marking the प्रकाश पर्व of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The announcement placed the planned cancer-care facility alongside the DSGMC’s existing efforts to provide lower-cost healthcare at facilities associated with Gurdwara Bangla Sahib and Bala Sahib Hospital.
The report did not specify the date on which chemotherapy services will begin, the number of treatment seats, the medicines and protocols that will be covered, or the benchmark used to calculate the proposed half-market rate. It also did not provide details on eligibility, registration, referral arrangements, oncology staffing or whether patients will need to undergo evaluation at the hospital before treatment.
Chemotherapy is commonly delivered through repeated treatment cycles and requires clinical supervision, drug procurement, monitoring and arrangements for managing adverse reactions. The DSGMC announcement, as reported, establishes the intended pricing and the plan to start the service but does not yet set out these operational details.
Bala Sahib Hospital is part of the DSGMC’s service network in Delhi. Kalka said the committee was providing affordable healthcare to the congregation and used the religious programme to outline services being made available through its institutions. The announcement therefore concerns not only a new hospital facility but also the expansion of a faith-linked organisation’s role in delivering lower-cost medical care in the city.
The reported reduction in treatment cost could be significant for families facing repeated cancer-care expenses, although the actual financial benefit will depend on which chemotherapy drugs and associated services are included in the proposed rate. Costs such as diagnostic tests, doctor consultations, hospital observation, supportive medicines and treatment for complications were not detailed in the announcement.
The event was held at Gurdwara Moti Bagh Sahib, with DSGMC general secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon and head of religious propagation Jaspreet Singh Karmasar also addressing the congregation. The programme included religious observances and the presentation of an award to the musical group led by Bhai Prem Singh Bandhu.
Kalka also announced a 15 per cent increase in dearness allowance for DSGMC employees, along with free life insurance and medical insurance. He said around 90 staff quarters at the Gurdwara Mata Sundari Ji complex were nearly ready. These announcements were made as part of the DSGMC’s wider programme of organisational and welfare initiatives.
The next confirmed milestone for the chemotherapy proposal is the DSGMC’s planned start of the service at Bala Sahib Hospital. Further information on the launch date, treatment capacity, pricing structure, clinical team and patient registration process will be required before the facility’s operational scope can be assessed.
