Mumbai Coastal Road North has received a construction boost with an advanced casting yard being established in Bhayandar for the Versova-Dahisar-Bhayandar coastal road project, which is targeted for completion by December 2028.
The facility will manufacture precast concrete structural components required for the project, allowing construction elements to be produced and prepared closer to the work area. Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar inspected the casting yard and reviewed the ongoing work at the site, according to a report by Loksatta – Mumbai.
The Mumbai Coastal Road North project is being developed to improve travel between Mumbai and Bhayandar and address congestion in the Mumbai metropolitan region. The overall project, including interchanges and connecting roads, is planned across approximately 60 kilometres and is expected to connect Versova with Bhayandar through the Dahisar section.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has divided the project into seven packages. These include packages A, B, C, D and E, package F, and the Dahisar-Bhayandar connecting road. The division is intended to organise construction across different stretches and supporting links of the larger corridor.
The casting yard is expected to play a key role in the project’s construction process. Precast components are manufactured in a controlled facility before being transported for installation at the project site. This approach can support the production of multiple structural elements required for large road and elevated infrastructure works, although the report does not provide details of the yard’s production capacity, staffing or transport arrangements.
The new facility comes after the completion of the Marine Drive-Worli section of Mumbai’s southern coastal road project. The civic administration has now turned its attention to the northern extension, which is intended to create a direct coastal road connection towards Bhayandar.
The project will affect travel between western Mumbai and the northern suburbs, as well as connections towards the Mira-Bhayandar region. Its eventual impact on traffic will depend on the completion of the separate packages, interchanges and connecting roads that form part of the planned corridor.
The inspection by the additional municipal commissioner indicates that the civic administration is monitoring the preparatory and construction-related work at the Bhayandar facility. The stated completion target for the wider Versova-Bhayandar project is December 2028.
