The Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee has urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to expedite the Pay Revision Commission report, announce 51% fitment and release pending dearness allowance instalments, with the government saying it will review the demands after assessing the state’s financial position.
A delegation led by TGEJAC chairman Maram Jagadishwar and secretary general Eluri Srinivasa Rao met Reddy at the Assembly on Thursday and submitted a representation covering the demands of government employees, gazetted officers, teachers, workers and pensioners.
The committee asked the chief minister to secure the PRC report at the earliest and announce the second pay revision with 51% fitment before Dasara. It also sought the immediate release of at least three of the six pending DA instalments.
The TGEJAC said pending employee and pensioner bills exceeded ₹10,000 crore and asked the government to accelerate their clearance. It proposed raising the current monthly release of around ₹1,000 crore to ₹2,000 crore, with ₹1,000 crore allocated to employees and an equal amount earmarked for pensioners.
The committee also called for the constitution of a panel to examine its demand to scrap the Contributory Pension Scheme and restore the Old Pension Scheme. It urged the government to take a decision on the issue at the earliest.
Healthcare was another issue raised during the meeting. The delegation sought effective implementation of the New Employees Health Scheme so that employees and pensioners receive adequate and accessible medical benefits.
According to the report, Reddy told the delegation that the government had already written to the Pay Revision Commission requesting submission of its report. He said the government would examine the commission’s recommendations and consult employee representatives before taking a final decision on the PRC and DA issues.
The chief minister also said the government had released about ₹10,000 crore since January and was making efforts to address the concerns of employees and pensioners. The figure was cited in response to the committee’s demands for quicker payment of pending bills and allowances.
Reddy told the delegation that he would convene a meeting with the finance department after the Assembly sessions to review the state’s financial position. The government is expected to take further measures on the employees’ demands after that review.
