Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor Ravi Landge has formally asked Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol to include an Alandi station in the proposed 45.29-kilometre Nigdi-Chakan metro corridor, citing the town’s religious and historical importance and the growing number of pilgrims visiting the area.
The proposed Nigdi-Chakan metro route is planned to run from Bhakti-Shakti through Mukai Chowk, Wakad, Nashik Phata and Moshi to Chakan. The corridor currently includes 34 proposed stations. Landge has requested that Alandi be added to the alignment and that the necessary approvals and central funding for the route be pursued.
The mayor’s demand is based on the expected transport needs of Alandi and the surrounding region, as well as the movement of devotees visiting the town. Alandi is an important religious centre in Maharashtra and attracts visitors throughout the year. The request seeks to connect the town to the proposed metro network rather than announcing an approved extension or a sanctioned station.
Landge also asked Mohol to support the process of securing the permissions required for the proposed corridor. The source report did not provide a decision from the Union government, a revised alignment, a construction schedule or an estimated cost for adding an Alandi station. The status of the request will therefore depend on further examination by the authorities responsible for planning and approving the corridor.
The proposed route is intended to connect key parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad and the northern Pune metropolitan region, including areas around Wakad, Nashik Phata, Moshi and Chakan. Adding Alandi would require the alignment and station plan to be reviewed by the relevant planning and metro authorities. No such revised plan has been announced in the information currently available.
In his communication, Landge also raised two other civic issues with the Union minister. He sought coordinated and time-bound action to control pollution in the Indrayani river, including measures related to sewage treatment, pollution control and river conservation. He further requested that the pending issues concerning the Pavana closed water pipeline project be addressed through a joint meeting involving all relevant stakeholders.
The next step on the metro request is consideration by the concerned authorities and any subsequent decision on approvals, alignment and funding. Until then, the inclusion of Alandi remains a demand made by the Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor rather than a confirmed component of the Nigdi-Chakan metro project.
