A goods train derailment near Kovvur railway station disrupted train operations on the section on September 11, prompting South Coast Railway to begin restoration work and cancel two passenger services originating from Visakhapatnam.
Vijayawada | September 11, 2026 — South Coast Railway said restoration work began soon after the derailment, with an Accident Relief Train and railway officials reaching the site. The railway administration said the work was being carried out under the guidance of South Coast Railway General Manager Sandeep Mathur.
Train movements were affected for several hours following the incident. Down-line services resumed at 9.28 am, while railway officials said up-line services would also resume shortly. The railway did not provide details in the statement on the cause of the derailment or whether any injuries were reported.
The disruption led to the cancellation of two passenger services scheduled for September 11. Train No. 67285, the Rajahmundry–Visakhapatnam Passenger, was cancelled. Train No. 67286, the Visakhapatnam–Rajahmundry Passenger, leaving Visakhapatnam on the same day, was also cancelled.
The cancellations affect passengers travelling between stations in the Andhra Pradesh railway corridor, including Rajahmundry, Tadepalligudem, Eluru, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and other locations served by the affected services. South Coast Railway advised passengers to seek updated information before travelling and said help desks had been established at stations to assist with train-service queries.

It expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers and thanked them for their cooperation during the restoration work. Further train movements on the affected section were dependent on the completion of the remaining restoration operations.
