A backlog in Thane’s Ganesh mandap permission process has left 202 of 282 applications pending, with the festival four days away, according to figures reported by Loksatta. The Thane Municipal Corporation has approved permissions for only 80 mandals so far, prompting concern among organisers preparing temporary structures across the city.
The municipal administration had allowed Ganesh mandals to submit applications through both online and offline channels. Of the 282 applications received, 145 were submitted online and 137 offline, according to ward committee-wise data cited in the report. Permission from the municipal corporation and other relevant agencies is required before mandaps can be erected.
The pending applications have become a concern because the festival is scheduled to begin in four days. Several mandals have reportedly started putting up structures based on the dimensions permitted in previous years, while some have already erected their mandaps. The report said organisers were dissatisfied with the delay in processing the current applications.
The Majiwada-Manpada ward committee has the largest number of pending applications. Of the 55 applications received in the area, only four have been approved, leaving 50 pending. In Vartaknagar, eight of 42 applications have been approved, while 34 remain under consideration.
The Lokmanya Nagar-Savarkar Nagar committee has received 36 applications and approved 13, with 23 pending. In Kalwa, 17 of 38 applications have been approved and 21 remain pending. The Wagle committee has approved 15 of 31 applications, leaving 16 pending.
The backlog extends across several other parts of Thane. The Naupada-Kopri committee has received 18 applications, of which four have been approved and 14 remain pending. In Uthalsar, seven of 23 applications have been approved, with 16 pending. Mumbra has approved three of nine applications, leaving six pending, while Diva has approved two of 17 applications and has 15 awaiting clearance.
The figures indicate uneven progress across the ward committees, with approval rates remaining low in several areas. The municipal permission process involves coordination between the civic body and other concerned agencies, although the report did not specify the reasons for each pending application or provide a revised timetable for clearances.
The latest reported figures place pressure on the Thane civic administration to process the remaining applications before mandals complete their festival preparations. Further permissions and administrative updates are expected ahead of the start of Ganeshotsav.
