A former Thane mayor staged a sit-in outside the deputy commissioner’s office at Thane Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, alleging that decisions on employee promotions and other pending administrative matters had been delayed.
Ashok Vaiti, associated with the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, held the protest outside the office of Deputy Commissioner G. G. Godapure. During the demonstration, a garland was placed on the nameplate outside Godapure’s office as a mark of protest against his administration.
Vaiti said several issues concerning municipal employees and citizens had been brought before the administration through public grievance meetings. He alleged that proposals signed by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had not been acted upon despite instructions to proceed according to the applicable rules.
The protest was attended by Shiv Sena leader Anita Birje, advocate Priyanka Sangare, Sandeep Shinde and Janaba Patil, according to the report. Vaiti criticised the deputy commissioner’s handling of the pending matters while speaking to reporters at the site.
The incident has drawn attention within the civic administration because the protest was led by a former mayor belonging to the ruling political establishment. The demonstration focused on the processing of promotions for municipal officers and employees, as well as other proposals and grievances that Vaiti said remained unresolved.
Godapure has denied the allegations and provided an explanation regarding the matter.
