Northern Coalfields Ltd has sharply increased coal production and supplies after monsoon rains eased, with daily output rising 67 per cent and dispatches increasing 75 per cent on September 8, Coal India Ltd said in a statement.
The Coal India arm produced 0.30 million tonnes of coal on September 8, compared with an average daily output of 0.18 million tonnes between September 1 and 3, when heavy rainfall affected operations. Supplies rose to 0.35 million tonnes from an average of 0.20 million tonnes during the same rain-affected period.
Northern Coalfields’ total production for the financial year 2026-27 stood at 51.43 million tonnes as of September 8, while its supplies reached 55 million tonnes, according to the statement. About 87 per cent of the company’s coal supplies are directed to the power sector.
The company also increased coal loading through Indian Railways. It loaded 41 rakes on September 8, compared with an average of 19 rakes a day between September 1 and 3. Railway rakes are used to transport coal from mines to consumers, including power plants.
Northern Coalfields supplies coal primarily to power plants in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The increase in dispatches comes as improved mine conditions allow the company to resume more regular production and evacuation activity after rainfall-related operational constraints.
Coal India said Northern Coalfields is intensifying efforts to maximise production and strengthen evacuation by making optimal use of available resources. The company’s stated focus is on converting improved mining conditions into higher output, faster dispatches and more dependable coal supplies.
