Lucknow’s Haider Canal Road Project Set to Resume Amid Challenges

Lucknow: Construction on the 900-metre road linking the 1090 intersection to the old DG office in Dalibagh is set to resume shortly, following a three-month hiatus. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) announced on Thursday that work on this crucial two-lane road project will recommence in the coming days. The project, which began on March 15, encountered multiple obstacles that necessitated a temporary halt.

According to an official letter from the LDA, one of the primary issues that delayed progress was the discovery of superficially laid power cables by the electricity department. This oversight posed significant safety risks during excavation, compelling the authorities to address the hazard before continuing with the construction. Moreover, the proposed road intersects two staff quarters and pump houses belonging to the irrigation department, necessitating their relocation. The LDA’s letter detailed these complications, underscoring the need for careful coordination between the involved departments to mitigate disruptions.

The project, with an estimated cost of 279 lakh, is scheduled for completion by September 14. It includes the installation of streetlights to enhance safety and visibility along the new thoroughfare. An executive engineer from the LDA confirmed that work would resume within the next 1-2 days. Another LDA official elaborated on the delays, citing the absence of necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from relevant departments as a significant bottleneck. With the irrigation department’s NOC now pending, the project awaits final approval before full-scale construction can recommence. The district administration has already granted an NOC for the transportation of soil for earth filling, as per a letter dated July 25 from the LDA.

Additionally, the LDA has tasked the irrigation department with identifying and addressing illegal constructions along the banks of the Haider Canal. These unauthorised structures must be removed to ensure unobstructed progress and compliance with regulatory standards. The resumption of the Haider Canal road project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the area, benefitting residents and commuters alike. The LDA’s commitment to overcoming these challenges demonstrates a concerted effort to enhance urban infrastructure while maintaining stringent safety and regulatory protocols.
