Pavana Closed Pipeline Project Moves Toward Fresh Talks

The Pavana closed pipeline project moved toward renewed negotiations on Wednesday after Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge met Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi and sought a coordinated solution to the concerns raised by farmers and other stakeholders in Maval.

Landge asked the district administration to consider the difficulties and positions of farmers in Maval while planning the project’s next steps. He also requested that a meeting be arranged with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the project and its future course, according to a report by Loksatta – Pune.

The mayor and the collector discussed previous meetings on the Pavana water pipeline, issues raised by farmers in the Maval area and the action required for further progress. Landge said the concerns of farmers, local residents and other affected groups should be addressed through coordination among the relevant authorities.

The project is considered important for Pimpri-Chinchwad’s long-term water-supply planning as the city continues to expand and its population increases. The proposed pipeline has remained linked to the city’s efforts to secure a more durable water source, while opposition and concerns among farmers in Maval have affected the way the project has progressed.

Landge said the administration should examine the difficulties and expectations presented by farmers during earlier discussions and take the necessary steps to find a positive and broadly acceptable solution. The mayor also called for the district administration to work with farmers, residents and the relevant government agencies before deciding the next course of action.

The meeting did not announce a final settlement or a confirmed construction schedule for the pipeline. The immediate next step proposed in the report is to seek the chief minister’s availability for a meeting involving the concerned stakeholders.
