PIMPRI-CHINCHWAD | September 9, 2026 — The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has begun a fresh survey of rooftop hotels across the city following complaints that some establishments are operating without required permissions and failing to comply with safety regulations. The civic administration has warned that unauthorised hotels and those found violating rules will face action after the survey is completed.
The survey is being conducted by the municipal corporation’s encroachment removal department. According to the administration, complaints have included the operation of hotels on building terraces without permission and inadequate fire-safety arrangements. Officials have said that establishments found to be operating illegally or violating applicable rules will be proceeded against.
The municipal corporation had previously surveyed rooftop hotels in 2023. That exercise identified 49 such establishments in different parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Several were found to be operating illegally, following which the corporation issued notices to the operators and gave them time to obtain the necessary permissions. Action was subsequently taken against nine unauthorised hotels.
The civic administration has now said that the number of rooftop hotels has increased again over the past two-and-a-half years. The renewed survey is intended to establish the current number of such establishments and determine whether they have the permissions required to operate from building terraces.
The areas identified as having a significant number of rooftop hotels include Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Pradhikaran, Spine Road and Bhosari. The administration’s warning applies to establishments across the city, rather than being limited to any one of these locations.
Rooftop commercial activity can involve multiple municipal and safety requirements, including permission for the use of the premises and compliance with fire-safety provisions. The complaints received by the corporation specifically allege that some hotels lack sufficient firefighting equipment. The administration has not disclosed the number of establishments covered by the latest survey or provided a deadline for completing it.
The latest exercise comes after the corporation’s earlier enforcement action against nine hotels and the notices issued to other operators in 2023. The civic body has not yet announced how many hotels have been inspected in the current survey or specified the date on which action against violations will begin.
The municipal administration has stated that enforcement action will be taken against rooftop hotels found to be unauthorised or in breach of safety rules once the survey process is completed.
