A Hyderabad constable has been suspended and faces criminal proceedings after allegedly posting objectionable and abusive remarks against K Kavitha, president of the Telangana Rakshana Sena and a former Member of Parliament, on social media, police said on Wednesday.
The action followed a complaint received by the police regarding the posts. Cyberabad Police said the constable was immediately suspended after the complaint, in accordance with the Civil Services Conduct Rules. The police identified the personnel as K Anil.
In a post on X, Cyberabad Police said a case had been registered at the Cyber Crimes Police Station in Hyderabad under Sections 75 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The case was registered on September 6.
According to the police, a preliminary investigation indicated that the alleged objectionable content had been posted using the constable’s own mobile phone. The device has been seized and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.
The police said criminal proceedings were initiated in addition to departmental action. A preliminary enquiry report from the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, will be considered before an internal departmental enquiry is started, the force said.
The departmental process will determine whether the constable violated service rules through the alleged posts. Cyberabad Police said punishment would be imposed in accordance with the applicable rules after the enquiry. The suspension order described the alleged conduct as gross negligence, dereliction of duty and grave misconduct while discharging legitimate duties.
The order also said the alleged material contained abusive and derogatory language directed against the TRS president and that such conduct could not be tolerated in the disciplinary force. The Cyberabad Police Commissioner issued the suspension order.
The case places both criminal investigation and internal disciplinary proceedings in motion. The forensic examination of the seized device and the preliminary enquiry report are the next stated steps in the proceedings.
