VASAI | September 9, 2026 — The Palghar branch of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti has urged local authorities to take stricter action against noise pollution caused by high-powered DJs, loudspeakers and other sound equipment during festivals and public celebrations in Vasai.
The organisation has called for special measures, including dedicated enforcement teams, to monitor noise levels and prevent violations during celebrations across communities. It has also sought strict implementation of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules.
According to the report, high-powered sound systems, DJs and loudspeakers are commonly used during Ganeshotsav, Dahi Handi, Navratri and festivals of other communities. The organisation said violations of existing restrictions had increased in recent times and that sound systems were often operated without adequate regard for residents.
The demand comes amid a wider discussion in Maharashtra after Pune-based Vיד्यानंद Bapat called for a ban on the use of DJs and loudspeakers during Ganeshotsav and public festivals. The issue has since drawn attention in other parts of the state, the report said.
The Palghar branch said excessive noise was causing difficulties for children, older people, patients and students. It also raised concerns about the potential effects of prolonged high-volume sound on residents’ health, while seeking stronger action during festival periods.
The organisation’s request is for enforcement of existing noise-pollution rules rather than an announcement of a government ban. The report does not cite a response from the Vasai-Virar civic administration, police or other authorities on whether special teams will be formed or additional restrictions will be imposed.
The immediate demand before the administration is to take preventive measures during upcoming festivals, monitor the use of sound equipment and act against violations of the applicable noise-pollution regulations.
