SpiceJet Mumbai-Dubai Flight Delay Disrupts Airport Operations

A technical fault delayed a SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Dubai on Tuesday morning, leaving passengers waiting at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and affecting subsequent services operated by the airline, according to a report by Loksatta – Mumbai.

The Mumbai-Dubai flight was scheduled to depart at around 9 a.m. However, a technical problem was detected in the aircraft before take-off. The time required to address the fault delayed the departure and led to a gathering of passengers at the airport.

Passengers travelling on the flight were reportedly inconvenienced by the delay. The disruption also affected flights scheduled after the Dubai service, as delays to one aircraft can carry over to later departures when the same aircraft is assigned to multiple sectors during the day.

The incident comes amid reports of repeated delays affecting SpiceJet services in recent days. The Loksatta report attributed the airline’s operational difficulties to technical issues, a shortage of aircraft and operational mismanagement. It also reported that financial constraints had left several SpiceJet aircraft grounded for extended periods, reducing the number of aircraft available for active operations.

With fewer active aircraft available, a delay involving one aircraft can affect multiple scheduled services. According to the report, this has affected flights from Mumbai, Chennai and other major cities. The exact duration of Tuesday’s delay and the revised departure time were not stated in the available report.

SpiceJet operates more than 20 direct destinations from Mumbai, although its schedule and fleet deployment change regularly. The airline runs both domestic and international services from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, making the availability and reliability of aircraft important to the continuity of its daily operations.

Passengers affected by delays may be entitled to assistance under Directorate General of Civil Aviation rules. The report states that when a flight is delayed by more than two hours, passengers are entitled to complimentary refreshments or meals from the airline, depending on the applicable circumstances. If a flight is delayed substantially or cancelled, passengers may seek a full refund or an alternative flight in accordance with the rules.

The report did not include a statement from SpiceJet on the technical fault, the duration of the delay, compensation arrangements or the status of the affected aircraft. Further details on the revised departure schedule and the handling of passengers were not available in the supplied information.
