Senior Maharashtra education department officials will begin visiting schools across the state from Wednesday under the ‘Chala Shalet Jauya’ campaign to assess educational quality, physical facilities and compliance with government directives, School Education Minister Dada Bhuse said after a meeting with teachers and their organisations.
The Maharashtra school inspections will cover government and local-body schools, as well as selected aspects of aided and self-financed schools. Officials will review the condition of school facilities, teaching quality and the implementation of directives concerning the state anthem, national anthem and Marathi-language instruction.
Senior officers have been assigned responsibility for individual districts. They will coordinate with district collectors, chief executive officers of zilla parishads, guardian ministers, legislators and members of Parliament to identify problems and work with the relevant agencies to address them, according to the minister’s briefing reported by Loksatta.
The campaign will also examine whether schools have accurately recorded their work on online systems. Bhuse said some schools may have carried out improvement measures but appear weaker in official assessments because those activities were not entered into digital records. The inspection teams will verify such cases and update the necessary records.
The department plans to use District Planning Committee funds more extensively to complete unfinished facilities in schools. It also intends to coordinate funding available through central and state government schemes, community participation, corporate social responsibility contributions and special funds for aspirational talukas.
The review will not be limited to a single inspection round. Senior officers are expected to conduct field visits every month after the initial assessment. The first round will be used to identify the facilities and interventions required at individual schools, after which the department will review the findings at the senior level.
The campaign is also intended to recognise teachers and students whose work is considered effective, while taking problems identified during visits to the agencies responsible for resolving them. The department said that issues which cannot be addressed immediately will be handled in stages.
The inspections will therefore combine physical verification, review of educational performance and coordination of funds and administrative support. The next step is the start of district-level school visits from Wednesday, followed by monthly field reviews of identified deficiencies and required improvements.
