Pimpri-Chinchwad police have registered 16 cases against Dahihandi organisers and DJ operators for allegedly violating prescribed sound limits during celebrations across the city, according to a report by Loksatta. Police also seized DJ equipment during inspections conducted at multiple venues.
The action followed on-site inspections of Dahihandi programmes, where officers found sound systems operating above permitted noise levels. The police then seized the equipment and registered cases against the organisers and DJ owners accused of violating noise-pollution regulations.
Cases were registered across 12 police station jurisdictions. Nigdi recorded four cases, followed by Bavdhan with three. Pimpri, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Dapodi, Hinjewadi, Wakad, Kalewadi, Bhosari, Dighi and Chakan South recorded one case each, taking the total to 16.
The enforcement followed directions issued by Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Dr Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awad and Basavaraj Teli. The police leadership had ordered action against organisers and DJ operators found violating noise-pollution rules during public celebrations.
The police said loud sound levels can cause difficulties for senior citizens, patients, young children and other residents. It appealed to organisers to conduct festivals while complying with prescribed limits and considering public peace and the surrounding environment.
The action comes as authorities prepare to monitor sound-system use during upcoming festivals. Police warned that organisers and DJ operators who breach noise regulations during future celebrations will face legal action. The department also reiterated that loudspeaker systems must be used within the prescribed limits and in accordance with applicable rules.
