Police in Pimpri-Chinchwad have registered 16 cases against Dahihandi organisers and DJ equipment owners for allegedly violating prescribed noise limits during celebrations, while seizing sound equipment from the locations where violations were detected.
The action was taken after police teams inspected Dahihandi programmes across the city and found DJ systems operating above permitted sound levels, according to a report by Loksatta – Pune published on September 8, 2026. The cases were registered against organisers and DJ owners involved in the events.
Police said the enforcement followed directions issued by Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner Dr Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awad and Deputy Commissioner Basavaraj Teli. The senior officers had instructed police units to take strict action against violations of noise-pollution rules during public celebrations.
Cases were registered across 12 police station jurisdictions. Nigdi recorded four cases, while three cases each were registered in Bavdhan and Pimpri. One case each was reported in Sant Tukaram Nagar, Dapodi, Hinjewadi, Wakad, Kalewadi, Bhosari, Dighi and Chakan South, taking the total to 16.
The enforcement places the use of amplified sound during public festivals within the city’s broader challenge of balancing religious and cultural celebrations with residential peace, public health and environmental regulation. The police said excessive noise can cause difficulties for senior citizens, patients, young children and other residents.
Officials appealed to organisers to use loudspeakers and other sound-amplification equipment only within prescribed limits and in accordance with applicable rules. The appeal also asked organisers to consider public peace and the environment while conducting future celebrations.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Police said monitoring would continue during upcoming festivals and warned that organisers and equipment owners who breach noise-pollution regulations would face legal action. The latest cases and equipment seizures are part of that enforcement warning for forthcoming public events.
