Pune Municipal Corporation will suspend water supply across most parts of the city on September 10 to carry out electrical, pumping and civil maintenance work at several water-treatment centres and related facilities, according to the civic water-supply department. Supply is expected to resume late and at low pressure on September 11.
The shutdown will begin after work starts around midnight on September 9 and will continue through Thursday, September 10. The civic administration has advised residents to store sufficient water in advance and cooperate with the maintenance schedule.
The planned work will cover the Parvati Water Treatment Centre, the Bhama Askhed jackwell, the Warje Water Treatment Centre and other installations. The civic department said the maintenance was necessary and had been scheduled to address electrical, pumping and civil requirements at the facilities.
The affected areas include large parts of south, west, north and central Pune. Areas supplied through the Parvati HLR tank include Sahakarnagar, Padmavati, Bibwewadi, Mukundnagar, Mahर्षीनगर, Upper and Lower Indiranagar, Gangadham, Kondhwa Khurd and nearby localities.
The SNDT water centre’s supply areas include Gokhalenagar, Aundh, Bopodi, the University of Pune, Law College Road, parts of Baner Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Bhandarkar Road, Prabhat Road, Paud Road, Mayur Colony and parts of Warje. The Bhama Askhed facility supplies areas including Kalas-Dhanori, Lohegaon, Tingre Nagar, Viman Nagar, Wadgaonsheri, Kalyani Nagar, Vishrantwadi, Yerawada and Kharadi, as well as Alandi and adjoining areas.
Supply interruptions will also affect Baner, Balewadi, Pashan, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Karvenagar, Aundh, Khadki, Wanowrie, Kondhwa, NIBM, Katraj, Dhayari, Dhanakwadi, Sinhagad Road and areas served by the Wadgaon water centre. The published list also includes several housing societies, peripheral settlements and areas near major roads and reservoirs.
Nandkishor Jagtap, head of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s water-supply department, said the work had been planned because the maintenance was required. The department has stated that water supply on September 11 will begin late in the morning and may remain at reduced pressure as the network is restored. The civic authority’s next scheduled step is the execution of the maintenance work from the night of September 9 through September 10.
