Mira Bhayandar Ganesh Visarjan arrangements will be carried out at 24 designated sites this year, with idols below six feet required to be immersed in artificial lakes and larger idols directed to five natural water bodies, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has announced.

The civic body has prepared a network of 24 immersion locations across the city for the Ganesh festival. The arrangement includes five natural water bodies and 19 artificial-lake facilities. The administration said the plan is intended to protect the environment, improve devotees’ safety and reduce crowding at immersion points.
Idols measuring more than six feet will be immersed at five natural sites: Uttan beach, the creek shore in Bhayandar West, the creek shore in Bhayandar East, the Ghodbunder Retibunder creek area and the Chena river. Idols below six feet will be directed to artificial lakes or separate compartments created for immersion.
Temporary artificial lakes are being arranged at eight open grounds. These include Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ground and an open space belonging to the State Transport department in Bhayandar West; Balasaheb Thackeray Ground and Major Dhyan Chand Ground in Bhayandar East; the ground near the ritual shed at Jesal Park Chowpatty; Balaji Ground; the ground opposite Don Bosco School in Mira Road; and Shivar Garden.
Separate immersion compartments will also be created at 11 existing lake locations. These are the Patil Ground area in Morva village, the Ram Mandir lake in Rai village, Nagar Bhavan lake in Bhayandar West, the old Navghar lake in Bhayandar East, the lake area opposite S.N. College, the Shivar Garden area in Mira Road, Padmavati lake and Naska lake in Ghodbunder, Jarimari lake in Kashimira, Satkari lake in Miragaon and Sukala lake in Penkarpada.
The municipal corporation is also making a specific arrangement at the natural lake in Murdha village. Last year, cases were registered against some villagers after Ganesh idols were immersed in the lake. This year, a separate compartment will be created there so that residents can carry out immersion at the same location while following the civic rules.
The city sees the installation of around 12,000 household Ganesh idols and nearly 400 public festival idols each year. In the previous year, a total of 19,167 Ganesh idols and Gauri idols were immersed across Mira-Bhayandar. The civic administration has anticipated a possible increase in the number of immersions this year and expanded its preparations accordingly.
As part of its safety plan, the administration has set a target of zero accidents during the immersion process. Devotees will not be permitted to enter the water directly. Instead, trained municipal immersion teams will carry out the process. Police teams will be deployed at the sites to prevent untoward incidents, while ambulances and medical teams will remain available for emergency treatment.
The civic body said the distribution of immersion locations is intended to allow devotees to reach a site near their neighbourhood and prevent excessive crowds at individual locations. The arrangements will be implemented during the festival’s immersion operations, with municipal teams, police personnel and medical staff assigned to the designated sites.
