Subheadline: Event organisers must secure prior permissions, follow sound limits and keep decorations clear of roads, police said.

Hosadurga police have directed Ganeshotsav organisers to obtain advance permissions and comply with rules governing sound systems, public decorations and traffic access during the festival, Inspector K.T. Ramesh said at a peace meeting held at the town police station premises.
Ramesh said organisers planning Ganeshotsav-related programmes must secure the required approvals before holding events. Police will collect information about permitted programmes and provide necessary assistance in accordance with directions issued by senior officers, he said.
The police have already held a meeting with users of loudspeakers and sound systems to explain the applicable rules. The use of DJs will not be permitted, while only loudspeakers allowed under the prescribed regulations may be used, Ramesh said.
Organisers putting up flex boards, buntings or banners must obtain mandatory permission from the relevant municipal council or gram panchayat. The permission record must include the approval number, details of the person commissioning the flex or banner and details of the printer, according to the instructions issued at the meeting.
Organisers must follow the days, locations, dimensions and time limits specified in their permissions. Decorative materials must not be installed in the middle of roads or in a way that obstructs traffic. Separate permission must be obtained from the relevant department for decorations that require such approval, police said.
The police also instructed organisers and printers not to use words, images or symbols on flex boards and banners that could harm communal harmony or hurt religious sentiments. Legal action will be taken against those who install unauthorised or rule-violating displays, Ramesh said.
Residents were asked to immediately inform beat police personnel in their villages if they receive information about a dispute or confusion related to Ganeshotsav arrangements. Ramesh said the law would apply equally to all Ganeshotsav celebrations and that rules would be enforced without discrimination.
He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police so that the festival could be observed peacefully and with communal harmony. KEB engineer Kiran Reddy, representatives of local Ganeshotsav committees, PSI Sreeshail and members of various village festival committees attended the meeting.
