Bengaluru airport emergency landing: A Virgin Atlantic flight bound for London returned to Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday after developing a technical problem shortly after take-off. About 270 passengers were on board, and all were reported safe.
The flight departed from Bengaluru airport at around 8.20 am, according to sources at Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates Kempegowda International Airport. The aircraft developed the technical issue soon after departure, prompting the crew to return to Bengaluru as a safety precaution.
The aircraft reportedly circled near Tumakuru for more than half an hour before returning to the airport. It subsequently made an emergency landing at Kempegowda International Airport.
“All passengers on board are safe,” BIAL sources said. The sources did not provide details about the nature of the technical problem.
The flight was carrying approximately 270 passengers travelling to London. The aircraft had taken off from Bengaluru before the issue was reported, but the airline and airport authorities did not immediately disclose whether the flight would resume its journey or whether passengers would be moved to another aircraft.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident. There was no immediate reaction from Virgin Atlantic when the report was published.
The incident comes amid the routine operation of Kempegowda International Airport as Bengaluru’s primary air gateway. Further details about the aircraft, the technical issue and the airline’s arrangements for passengers are awaited from the airline and authorities.
